As a result of the mortgage market review which was a study carried out after the 2008 credit crisis it was deemed necessary for more stringent checks to reduce risky lending.

This review came into force in 2014 and immediately had an impact on the full mortgage market as we saw much slower turnaround times for mortgages to be processed and the lenders are declining a lot more cases as a result. This cements the need for specialist assistance in packaging a mortgage application as well as finding the best value mortgage product.
Poor quality of applications being submitted directly to lenders from customers and also through branches are causing a higher level of mortgage applications being declined and this impacted on the volume of clients using brokers rise sharply since 2014.
As brokers can in many instances get access to exclusive deals not available in branch or direct to lender it begs the questions why would anyone not visit a broker first?
